How to spot job scams: a safety guide for NGO job seekers

Because NGO and UN jobs are respected, scammers copy real organisations to trick applicants. A few habits will keep you safe.
Common warning signs
- You are asked to pay for application, training, a visa or a uniform.
- The email comes from a free personal address while claiming to be a major organisation.
- The offer arrives without an interview.
- You are pushed to reply or pay urgently.
- The advert has many spelling mistakes or vague duties.
Verify before you reply
Go to the organisation's official website and look for the same vacancy. Contact the organisation through details you found yourself, not the ones in the message.
Protect your information
Do not send copies of identity documents or bank details until you have a verified contract. Share only what a recruiter genuinely needs at each stage.
If you have been targeted
Stop contact, keep the messages, report the sender to the platform or the organisation being copied, and warn others.
